摘要

An analytical method for determining the amplitude distribution of electric and magnetic field vectors over a finite aperture is developed. The method is based on direct integration of the Maxwell field equations and the fact that uniform phase amplitude distributions of plane polarized electric field vectors and their corresponding aperture distributions may be added scalarly at each point in space and over the aperture. It is rigorous and requires no assumptions regarding aperture limits. The only restriction placed on the method from a practical point of view is that the postulated distant field pattern for which the source distribution is sought, must be of such a nature that it may be set up by circularly symmetric, plane polarized waves over the illuminated aperture. A relatively simple means of checking a postulated pattern to determine if it meets this requirement is also developed.
