Cortisone Acetate in Thirty-Two Cases. Preliminary Clinical Observations.

Thirty-two patients with a variety of diseases have been selected for clinical trials with cortisone acetate (Kendall's Compound E or 17-hydroxy,11- dehydrocorticosterone acetate). The cortisone used in these clinical trials was manufactured by Merck Company and was supplied in a concentration of 25 mg. per cubic centimeter of normal saline. Administration was by intramuscular injection. Extensive chemical studies have been made on this group of patients while under the influence of cortisone medication. Several of these patients will be described in greater detail elsewhere. The purpose of the present report is to summarize our preliminary observations, particularly on the toxic manifestations of such medication.
