摘要

The present review briefly presents the growing experimental as well as theoretical interest in recent years in the effects of correlation, relativity, exchange, channels coupling and polarization on the high precision scattering of electron by alkali-metal atoms and alkali-like ions. Many high precision experiments have been performed which need very high accurate theoretical prediction for correct interpretation and identification of different physical effects involved. Several sophisticated theoretical techniques have been developed for inclusion of the above mentioned effects which play an extremely important role in order to obtain results of high accuracy for understanding experimental observation of high precision. At present, we do not have a comprehensive and practical atomic scattering theory which accounts for all these effects on an equal footing. Future challenges and directions, in reliable electron-atom scattering calculations, have been discussed and suggested. (author). 136 refs, 16 figs. (Atomindex citation 27:069581)
