FINE POWDERS: PREPARATION, PROPERTIES AND USES. A REVIEW

In the Division of Inorganic and Metallic Structure and its predecessors in the National Physical Laboratory, work on the fuse of plasma as a reaction medium has been in progress for several years. Because of the very steep temperature gradient at the edge of the plasma, solid products usually condense as fine powders. The Division has thus extensive expertise in the preparation of fine powders by condensation processes and considerable experience of their characterization and of some of their properties. A number of industrial contacts and contracts have led to an appreciation of the current uses of fine powders.
