Many experiments in Raman spectroscopy are limited by background due to the elastic scattering line (Tyndall effect) or spurious reflection of the light beam in the sample which is not completely rejected by the usual grating spectrometer. The reduction of this stray light background is improved by the use of dual chromatons with high contrast factors. A system using a Fabry-Perot interferometer in addition to the classical monochromatron and permitting the elimination of a given frequency is analyzed theoretically and its possible use for rejection of the central line in Raman spectroscopy is outlined.
