摘要

The design of a model of the RIT 10 M high frequency ion engine for possible applications to stationkeeping of communication satellites is described. The engine has undergone sinus- and random-vibration tests up to an acceleration of 18 G's. The aggregate withstood the loads without any mechnical or electrical defects. RIT 10 M produces a thrust of 10 MN with a power consumption of 309 W, a beam current of 100 MA and a total efficiency of 70.8%. The system was modified for low specific pulses. For extraction voltages under 3 kV it produces up to 150 mA beam current. RIT 10 S produces 3 to 7.5 mN thrust at 100 to 200 W input power and 38 to 65% total efficiency. (Author)
