摘要

Three types of stress corrosion tests (open circuit, constant potential, constant current) were applied to short transverse pre-cracked 7075 aluminum alloy specimens loaded in bending and immersed in a NaCl solution. The results could be qualitatively explained by the theory that in stress corrosion the reaction of major importance is the pitting reaction which, for aluminum and chloride, is Al + 3Cl(-)yields AlCl3 + 3(e).
