Steady Tonation and Flagration Waves in Reactive Continua

A theory of steady reaction waves is presented. It applies to all types of steady reaction waves; tonation waves which can only travel at supersonic speeds relative to the undisturbed reactive medium, and flagration waves which may be either subsonic or supersonic. It also applies whether the total reaction in the wave is net exothermic (detonations, deflagrations) or nett endothermic (intonations, inflagrations). If the term reaction is taken to include exothermic and endothermic phase-changes such as condensation, vaporization, fusion, and solidification, then the theory also includes all steady waves in which such phase-changes are propagated, both of tonation and flagration type. The theory applies to steady reaction waves of finite thickness, and is developed for general fluids, as distinct from particular fluids with simple thermodynamic properties.
