This suggests that the quiet regions of of the Sent emit the same percentage of helium, no matter what the stage of the solar cycle:the increase of the mean value of N /N would be entirely due to more frequent helium enrichments occurring in. connection with large solar flares.nThe existence of a correlation of the particle abundance with the plasma bulk velocity (Fig. 1) has itself interesting theoretical consequences. Diffusion models of the expanding corona (Nakada, 1970) expect the escape of helium ions to be easier for high" coronal temperatures:this is consistent with the observed" increase of Nα /Np for hi ghoul velocities.
