An impactor which deposits aerosol particles of aerodynamic diameters between 0.5 and 5 microns according to their size in a single stage is described. Concentric flows of clean air and aerosol are joined, accelerated and aerodynamically focused in a round nozzle. The particles are deposited on a slide, the larger particles closer to the center. The calculated calibration from a flow field model is in qualitative agreement with the empirical calibration. Particle size measurements of aerosols in coal mines and their size distributions are reported. (Author)
