TO REDUCE THE LARGE AMOUNT OF REFLECTED HEAT RADIATION BY THE SHROUD OF THE TEST FACILITY MEASURED DURING THE THERMAL BALANCE TESTS ON THE THERMAL MODEL OF THE HELIOS SOLAR PROBE AT HIGH INTENSITY (16 SOLAR CONSTANTS), THE TEST CHAMBER WAS MODIFIED BY INSTALLATION OF A SHROUD WITH A GROOVED SURFACE. DESCRIBED IS THE SHROUD SURFACE (V-GROOVES), AND THE METHODS USED FOR MEASURING AND CALCULATING THE ABSORPTANCE OF THE GROOVED SURFACE.
