A gasdynamic theory of spinning detonation is presented. Account is taken of the extremely high pressures observed in the detonation head and of the chemical processes occuring in detonations. It becomes evident that the spinning detona¬tion propagates behind a self induced, axially propagating shock. This process suggests the method of successive appro¬ximation. Its first step yields the pitch, the pressure ra¬tios and the axial component of propagation velocity with sufficient accuracy.
