摘要

This memorandum describes a mathematical model for simulating the reflection of radar signals from rain clouds. The emphasis is laid upon finding the velocity spectrum of rain clouds from which the mean and standard deviation of the Doppler speed can be determined. The model has been programmed on the CDC 6400 computer at STC.nNumerous factors influence the shape of the velocity spectrum. Some of these factors, for instance antenna beam width, elevation angle, beam orientation, and location of the cloud, are characterized by one or two parameters which can be controlled by the program user. This may be performed directly by input specifications or indirectly by activating built-in mechanisms which cause the parameters to vary over certain ranges.
