In this study four different types of systems for beam forming at IF have been investigated:nFixed beam forming (FBF) Scannable beam forming (SBF) Adaptive beam forming (ABF) Retrodirective beam forming (RBF)nThe study of FBF has resulted in two possible solutions.nPhase shifting in the second LO branch.nPhase shifting in the signal branch.nThe solution with phase shifting in the second LO branch is recommen¬ded for future applications. This choice is made because this solution gives 20 % lower phase requirements on the L-band equipment and because the beam forming matrix weighs less than half as much as the corresponding matrix in the other solution. No breadboard feasibility experiments are proposed as this system is sufficiently well known to make it possible to directly make an engineering model with FBF.
