Behavioural observations of passengers boarding a slow speed conveyor

The human factors research described in this report is an integral part of a larger program of research concerned with the assessment of transport technol¬ogy. In particular, the research has been conduct¬ed in the context of a research project that has examined the feasibility of an innovatory pedestri¬an travellator system. The main design features of this system are, first, the use of gravity to pro¬duce the required acceleration and, second, a sys¬tem of lenticular pallets for the walking surface. The assessment of system feasibility has been an interdisciplinary process involving research activ¬ity in the areas of design, economics and human factors engineering.
