Development of a Fuel Injection System for use in Tracer Experiments on mixing in Diesel Engine Combustion Chambers

The specific requirements of the injection system are that (a) of the total amount of fuel injected in each cycle 10% approximately should be marked fuel, (b) the injection rate of this marked portion of the fuel should be approximately the same as that of the remainder, the injection period for the marked fuel thus being approximately 10% of the total injection period, and (c) the timing of the injection of marked fuel during the total injection period should be variable at will.nThe present report covers the development of a prototype system meeting these requirements, and of an alternative system allowing greater freedom of choice of the main injection conditions.
