SPACE PROCESSING OF CHALCOGENIDE GLASSES

摘要

This project is being conducted for NASA-MSFC to investigate space processing of chalcogenide glasses. Chal¬cogenide glasses are good infrared transmitters and have good strength, corrosion resistance, and scale-up potential. These properties give chalcogenides promise as large 10.6μ windows since the competition materials, alkali halides, are hydroscopic and are only available in five to six inch diameters as limited by their hot forge manufacturing technique.
