That is one reason why only real artists could fly these machines. Also control power available to the pilot was very limited. With progressing knowledge and experience however these shortcomings were overcome during the Twenties and for some period of time the school striving for inherent stability won over the school that was working for "artificial" stability which is what automatic control means.nAutomatic control systems were then used to provide assistance to pilots and as automatic navigation systems, which were designed in parallel to the basic airframe and its basic control system. These systems were primarily mechanical/pneumatic systems. They were not very easy to work with and in very many cases they were very susceptible to contamination (Fig. 4).
