Throughout this report the term "space photograph" refers to photos taken from satellites (Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, ERTS, etc.) orbiting the earth (approximately 100-500 miles high). On the other hand, usage of the term aerial photograph has been restricted to photos taken from non-orbiting aircraft within the earth's atmosphere (generally less than 70,000 feet). Geologists should bear in mind, however, that air photo interpretation is a tool aiding in the solution of field oriented geologic problems and should be used in conjunction with field work. Photo interpretation is merely a means to reach an end and is not an end within itself.nThe primary objective of this study is to examine the feasibility of using aerial photography for lithologic differentiation in a heavily vegetated region.
