Anti-icing of antenna supports located on the Grosse Arber

The formation of rime ice deposits is to be prevented on antenna supports located on the Grosse Arber. The support structure consists of a spun-concrete mast, rising 37.5 m above ground, on which a steel-tube topping 7.5 m long is mounted, carrying the antenna system for three TV channels.nIn winter there is a heavily-used ski slope below the concrete mast. By implementing the measures described it was possible during the winter of 1970/71 to prevent the formation of ice deposits on the antenna support (concrete sast and steel-tube topping), on the covered cable conduit and on the antennas. The antenna mountings, the cable distributors, and the distributor cables can be protected by means of a cylindrical shell.
