In doing so the three astronauts who had never before been in space rose from space rookies to space champs breaking the previous record for the longest individual total flight time in space. This event occurred at 1”45 a.m. EDT. January 25.1974, when they passed the 69 days 15 hours and 45 minutes accumulated by astronaut Alan L. Bean on Apollo 12 and the second Skylab manned mission.
