Experience from the Use of the Transient Moisture Response Computer Program W8gain for Composite Materials

A computer program for transient moisture response of composite materials and the required input data are discussed. Some numerical results are presented and compared with experiments performed on graphite/epoxy T300/5208. The numerical results indicate that the weight-gain due to moisture could be well predicted when the input data are properly measured. There are large spreads in data presented in the literature between different investigations, probably due to different curing processes for the same material. It is suggested that the input data to a moisture response calculation must be measured in order to accurately predict the transient moisture response.
