An Approach to the Correlation Between the Degree of Crosslinking of Organic Coatings and Their Technological Properties

The dependence of some mechanical and chemical/physical properties upon time and temperature variables in the process of curing leading to paint hardening is studied. The quantitative characterization of polymer crosslinking applied to whole paints is discussed. Experiments which determine the degree of crosslinking for a filler used in automobile production by noting the amount of swelling in the solvent, the permeability to water vapor, the tensile strength, and the elongation are described.
