The Metal-Ceramic X-Ray Tube

An X-ray tube with higher spatial resolution, better contrast, filtering and cooling, and a longer working life than conventional tubes is described. The tube has a steel outer jacket which is maintained at earth potential. The high voltage is applied directly to the anode and cathode. The anode is supported along its axis on two sides. An additional ceramic insulator serves as a potential separation between the anode axis and the rotor. Distances between stator and rotor are significantly smaller by comparison with the glass tube, and the efficiency of the motor for starting the anode is improved. The supporting of the anode on both sides, and the stable metal design on the X-ray tube, permit the use of heavy anode plates and an increase in the diameter of the focal spot path.
