Interacting Populations That Disperse to Avoid Crowding: The Effect of a Sedentary Colony

A population model in which a finite number of interacting groups attempt to avoid crowding is considered. A habitat containing a mobile and a sedantary species is studied. It is shown that when the mobile population is sufficiently large relative to the sedentary population, the mobile species eventually populates the entire habitat. However, when mobile species density is less than that of the sedentary species, the mobile individuals do not reach the portion of the habitat that lies to the other side of the sedentary colony.
