An Absolute Calibration Method for Electron Cyclotron Emission Spectrometers

For absolute calibration of electron cyclotron emission spectrometers, it is shown that a large area black body can be simulated by a two dimensional scan of a microwave source. An equivalent temperature for the simulated blackbody is introduced. An expression for the calibration factor of the system, defined as the detector ouptut voltage divided by the black body temperature is derived. The frequency resolution of the spectrometer can be included in the calibration by using a swept source.
