Moisture content, ice content, specific weight, salinity, heat capacity, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity, and freezing point depression of saline soils are discussed. Thermocouples, flat electric heaters, and thermometers are also discussed. Preparation of soil samples, compressibility of frozen and thawing soils, resistance of frozen soils to normal pressure, spherical stamp method of testing, long-term value cohesion of frozen soil, uniaxial compression under constantly changing pressure, resistance of frozen and thawed soils to shear, shear along the lateral surface of foundations, tangential heaving forces of soils, and viscosity of ice inclusions are discussed.
