A Computer Package for Designing pH Regulation Systems

Three related preprints about computer aided design (CAD) of pH systems are discussed. Why problems of pH regulation are interesting, but difficult is explained. An introduction to the need for the CAD package described is given. The CAD package which simulates pH regulation in a common class of unit process is described. A selection of conventional and novel algorithms performing classical control, adaptive control and online estimation is included. The simulation is sufficiently accurate in detail and well provided with interactive features that it can be used to design real plant. Examples are given to show how it was applied in two different ways: to design controllers for existing plant and to explore control aspects of proposed new plant. A user's guide to the CAD package is given.
