Stress Intensity Factors for Corner Cracks at Holes Located Near an Edge

The general purpose finite element code BASIS was used to calculate the variation of the mode I stress intensity factor KI along the crack front for a quarter-elliptical crack at a hole in a plate. Results of KI as function of plate thickness, distance between hole and plate edge, crack ellipticity, and crack size are given for 15 basic loading cases. Values of KI obtained differ 2% or less from the true values. A FORTRAN-module which utilizes the data base created and allows for quick interpolation between data obtained was developed.
