In-Service Supervision of a Pressurized Concrete Pressure Vessel

On-line measurements of the physical state of a prestressed concrete pressure vessel and a comparison of the distribution of temperature, strain and stress within the concrete member with optimized statical predictions and layout criteria produced an efficient and economical method of operating the vessel with a high safety potential. The requirements of instrumentation and the comparison with static calculations on the prototype vessel during construction and prestressing, the first thermal treatment (stabilization), and the pressure tests under the operating conditions of a high temperature reactor (150 C/50 bar) are discussed.
