Alpine Lee Cyclogenesis: Numerical Simulation and Theory

摘要

Achievements in numerical modeling of the Alpine lee cyclogenesis are reviewed. The theoretical issues relating to lee cyclogenesis are discussed, and approaches are reviewed. A consensus is emerging that the essence of lee cyclogenesis resides in orographic modification of large scale baroclinic instability. Considerable success is achieved in understanding various aspects of the phenomenon in isolation, but a complete, quantitive theoretical model is not available.
