Variation of Pressure on the Ground with Height of Burst of High Explosive Charges

Over 240 charges of RDX/TNT 60/40, each a sphere of 8 lb 10 oz, were fired at heights from 3 in. to 40 ft above a level concrete surface. Overpressures were recorded by quartz crystal gages mounted from 1.5 to 5.5 in. above the ground, at distances from 15 to 85 ft from Ground Zero. A set of curves of height of burst versus peak pressure, and height of burst versus ground range, are given for peak overpressures from 2 to 30 psi.
