The relation between measured values of the aerosol extinction coefficient at various wavelengths and the simultaneous registered meteorological data was analyzed. Pronounced diurnal and annual variations of aerosol extinction are observed. A model for calculation of the aerosol extinction coefficient in IR wavelengths from meteorological data was tested. The model relates the IR extinction to visibility and to the IR/visible extinction ratio which can be derived from meteorological parameter values. Using the model, statistics of the IR aerosol extinction for various geographical regions and seasons of the year may be calculated from meteorological data.
