Heavy Flavor Production and Heavy Flavor Mixing at the Cern Proton-Antiproton Collider

Explanation of a large fraction of measured inclusive muon and inclusive dimuon cross-sections by the production and semileptonic decays of heavy flavors is assessed, by comparing theoretical models with data from e(+) e(-) experiments. It is argued that the anomalously large amount of same-sign dimuon events observed might be a sign of heavy flavor mixing in the Bs(0)-Bs bar (0) system. It is shown that it is possible to explain rates and topologies of the (di) muon events in terms of QCD calculations. The production, fragmentation, and decays of heavy quarks in proton-antiproton collision were calculated. The influence of theoretical and experimental uncertainties on the same-sign dimuon to opposite-sign dimuon ratio was studied.
