Multigrid methods are introduced, and algorithmic choices in the NUMVEC Library routine MGZEB (a highly vectorized multigrid code for the solution of linear systems resulting from the 7-point discretization of general linear 2nd order elliptic PDEs in two dimensions), are discussed. Since the relaxation process is the most expensive part of a multigrid iteration cycle, the data structure was adapted to avoid Cyber 205 stride-problems when executing zebra relaxation. The effects of vectorization/choosing another data structure are considered, and large problems on the Cyber 205 are mentioned.
