Advanced Information Technology Monitoring with Microprocessors

A decentralized spacecraft control and operation system (DSCOS) to provide the primary data processing support for spacecraft control centers is presented. The control systems of an electricity supply company and of a nuclear power plant were studied to derive DSCOS requirements. The hardware architecture places the workstations on the level below the back end and front end computers. Workstations are connected to local area networks according to their purpose, but an optical repeater allows data access between workstations, or between workstations and back end computers. A system oriented network assures functional connection between the front ends. It is possible to connect file servers and common resources (e.g., peripherals). The user interface is described.
