High Performance Titanium Plate Fin Heat Exchanger Using a Novel ManufacturingProcess

The Plate Fin Heat Exchanger (PFHE), a compact heat exchanger which offerssignificant advantages over shell and tube exchangers in terms of weight, volume, and thermal effectivenesss, is described. It has a multistream capability and consequently a single unit can replace several shell and tube exchangers. The superplastic forming/diffusion bonding manufacturing process, which overcomes the limitations imposed by the conventional PFHE manufacturing route and allows greater flexibility in the design of PFHE's, is described.
