摘要

Research on the development of ductile aerospace alloys based on titaniumaluminides is reported. These aluminides may serve as matrix materials for high temperature structural composites. As a background to consideration of the possible approaches to the design of such alloys, the pertinent developments in the field of nickel base superalloys is presented, given the many similarities in the Ti-Al and Ni-Al systems. The crystal structure of Ni3Al is described along with the types of lattice defects in these structures. The mechanical properties of NiAl and TiAl intermetallic single crystals and polycrystals at room temperature and at high temperatures are summarized. Some future studies on Ti-Al systems are proposed.
