Investigations on the Use of GPS for Geodetic and Orbit DeterminationApplications

The results of an investigation of the characteristics of the NAVSTAR/GPS (GlobalPositioning System) and an exploration of its use for various applications, through numerical simulations and offline processing of observations obtained by operational GPS receivers, are reported. The report covers: operational principles and characteristics; results of an observation campaign using the Bernese second generation software package; Hermes navigation/localization GPS/DRS (Data Relay Satellite) simulations; mathematical description of the real time relative orbit determination of two space vehicles using the Oasis system.
