Jare Data Reports No. 179 (Meteorology 29). Meteorological Data at Asuka Station,Antarctica in 1990

Surface meteorological observations have been made continuously since Jan. 1987at Asuka Station. The station was established as the third Japanese Antarctic station in Dec. 1984 at 71 deg 32 min S and 24 deg 08 min E at an elevation of 965 m a.s.l. The automatic meteorological observation system was installed at the station at the beginning of Jan. 1987. The international index number (WMO) 89524 was given. The surface synoptic data taken by the 31st Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE-31) in 1990 are presented. The observer was Akira Iwasaki from the Japan Meteorological Agency. Surface synoptic reports (FM12-VIII-EXT.-SYNOP) at 00, 03, 06, 09, 12, 15, 18 and 21 UTC and monthly summaries (FM71-VI-CLIMAT) were sent to Darmstadt, F. R. G. through Geostationary Satellite (METOSAT). Data of the present report were also published in the Data Report by Japan Meteorological Agency (1992).
