摘要

There is a great demand for some reliable method of estimating the effect of " set-back " hinge balance on the hinge moments of control surfaces.nPrevious analyses have been entirely empirical but in the present report a theoretical approach on the basis of thin aerofoil theory is used.nEmpirical corrections, obtained by comparison of theory with experiment, are given for the effect of aerofoil section and nose gap. Insufficient data exist to enable all parameters affecting the nose gap correction to be completely covered.
