The Use of Influence Factors in Problems of Fluid Flow

A vigorous mathematical analysis has been applied to some empirical results, obtained by Thom, on the use of the ‘squares method’ in problems of fluid flow. The problem considered is that of determining the incompressible and compressible flow past an arbitrarily shaped body paced in a wind tunnel.nThom’s formulae (4.3.2 and 4.3.3) for the influence factor F, which can be used to calculate the difference between the incompressible and compressible values of the potential function at infinity, have also been derived.
