A THEORETICAL INVESTIGATION OF INFORMATION LIMITS OF SCANNING OPTICAL SYSTEMS

The investigation described in this report had two objectives:n(1) to improve the accuracy of current methods of predicting system performance, andn(2) to develop better techniques of signal processing.nThe first objective entails selecting models that are more complete than models currently used. With complete models, we can accurately predict system performance. The second objective entails developing processing tech¬niques that efficiently use signals generated by the photodetector. With efficient techniques, we can minimize the sensor size or obtain more accurate measurements.
