摘要

Plane strain conditions were setup in an investigation of the relationship between the shear-angle and the slenderness ratio in orthogonal cutting,, Reliance is placed on a cutting theory based on the plasticity of the mate rial, in the derivation of equations to be used in the calculation of hy -drostatic stress vaiues in function of the shear—angle0 A relationship between hydrostatic stress and slenderness ratio is then considered. A connection found between elendmess ratio and shezr-angle is shown to be in close agreement with the experimental data$ in particular in the case of slenderness ratio values which are most likely to be accompanied by plane strain.
