SPECTRAL ANALYSIS OF SIMULATED WIND RECORDS INCLUDING TIME-VARYING MEANS AND GUSTS

The general nature of wind is discussed briefly. Pseudo wind records, with time-varying means and including gust effects, are generated on a digital computer to simulate actual wind records as realistically as possible. This study is an extension of the thesis by RAMIENTOS (1967) who used a constant mean velocity, with¬out gust effects, in the simulation procedure.nPortions of actual velocity and yaw records of a hurricane are available, for three different elevations during four different periods of the storm, for comparison with the simulated records. Parameters used in the generation of pseudo wind records are:mean velocity and yaw, velocity and yaw fluctuations in independent zones, frequency of velocity fluctuations, and a power-law velocity profile. The kinetic energy, autocorrelation functions and energy spectrum for both actual and pseudo winds are compared.
