COMPUTER PREPARATION OF A FREQUENCY ASSIGNMENT PLAN FOR VHF AIR-GROUND COMMUNICATION CHANNELS

In the European-Mediterranean region the frequencies available for use by air traffic services (ATS) communication channels seem likely to reach saturation point in the near future because of increasing traffic and the resulting increase in controller workload. At present the frequencies required for international facilities are assigned by manual methods by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, and the question has arisen of the feasibility of using a computer to make a complete re-assignment plan.nThis Report gives the results of investigations into this possibility. The conclusion drawn is that it appears that computer methods can improve on results obtained manually.
