Photoelastic calibration experiments have been performed on 1/8 inch thick sheets of Pyrex and Plexiglas to determine the apparent colors of these materials when stressed and viewed in white light in a circular polariscopic.nThe results of dynamic strain gage experiments show that clearly defined P-wave radiation patterns are emitted from explosive sources in stressed sheets of Pyrex and Plexiglas. We have not been able unequivocally to identify S-waves emanating from these sources.
