PERFORMANCE AND LOSSES OF A DC STARTER-GENERATOR FOR SMALL, LOW-COST JET ENGINES

Test results on a dc starter-generator are presented. As a generator, this machine was rated 30 volts and 150 amperes for a speed range of 8100 to 12 100 rpm. Data given are for the machine operating as a generator and include saturation curves, losses and efficiency, temperatures, and voltage regulation with a regulator.nFor an output of 28 volts and 150 amperes, efficiency ranged from 75.3 percent at 8100 rpm to 71.5 percent at 12 100 rpm.nThe generator was run with the voltage regulator. For a load current of 150 amperes, voltage varied from 27.2 to 27.9 volts over the speed range of 8100 to 12 100 rpm.
