摘要

The theory of mixing oscillators is presented considering a Gunn effect oscillator as being the association of an active part which can produce power at several frequencies, and a passive part with discrete resonance capacities which determine the frequency levels at which the system can exchange power with the external medium. An experimental study has shown good agreement with the theory which can also be used to study the influence of the low frequency circuit on the noise in the high frequency oscillator. It is shown also that the mixing oscillator has a rather high noise factor due to the Schottky effect so that its use is restricted to cases when a low sensitivity is required. The problem of negative resistance oscillators is also examined.
