Mutagenicity Evaluation of 3-(2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy)phenol Acetate with Cover Letter dated 060994.

3-(2-Chloro-4- (trifluoromethyl)phenoxy)phenol acetate (technical 97%, CAS # 50594-77-9) was evaluated for mutagenicity in the Reverse Mutation Salmonella/microsome Test, using the Plate Overlay Method. Based on preliminary toxicity tests, Salmonella strains TA1535, TA1537, TA1538, TA98, and TA100 were exposed in vitro to concentrations of 0 (solvent control), 0.001, 0.01, 0.10, 1.00, and 5.00 uL/plate either in the presence or the absence of S9 metabolic activation for 48 hours. Under the conditions of this study, no mutagenicity (significant, reproducible, dose-related increases in revertants/plate over 3 dose levels) was demonstrated in any tested Salmonella strain by assay with or without metabolic activation over a range of concentrations approaching toxicity.
